Clarksville Concrete Works installs epoxy garage floors and polyaspartic garage floor coating systems in Clarksville homes, shops, and basements. A coated floor is easier to clean, resists oil and road-salt stains, and turns a dusty gray slab into a finished room.
Why Garage Floor Coating Fails, and How We Prevent It
Most coating failures come from poor prep, not the coating itself. Before anything is rolled on, we:
- Diamond grind the slab to open the surface so the coating can bond (far better than acid etching)
- Repair cracks, pits, and spalls with epoxy or polyurea filler
- Test for moisture, since moisture coming up through a slab can push coatings off
- Remove oil and old paint or coatings that would prevent bonding
Garage Floor Coating Systems
Epoxy
A thick, durable base coat that bonds well to properly prepared concrete. Epoxy alone can yellow in sunlight, so it's often paired with a UV-stable topcoat.
Polyaspartic
A fast-curing, UV-stable coating used as a topcoat or as a full system. It handles temperature swings well and often lets a garage floor be finished in a day.
Decorative flake
Vinyl color flakes broadcast into the base coat add texture for grip, hide dust and small imperfections, and give the floor a finished look. Full broadcast covers the floor edge to edge; partial broadcast leaves more base color showing.
Metallic and solid color
Metallic epoxy creates a swirled, marbled look popular in showrooms and man caves. Solid-color systems suit workshops where you want to spot dropped parts easily.
How an Epoxy Garage Floor Is Installed
- Move everything out and grind the floor.
- Fill cracks and repair damaged areas, and grind the repairs flush.
- Apply the base coat, often with a coved edge up the wall a few inches.
- Broadcast flake, if chosen, and scrape off the excess once cured.
- Apply one or two clear topcoats, with grit added for traction.
Foot traffic is usually fine the next day, and cars can return after the topcoat fully cures, which varies by system.
Hot-Tire Pickup and Clarksville Winters
Cheap one-part kits often peel where hot tires sit, and road salt and slush tracked in during winter are hard on bare concrete. A properly bonded, professionally installed system with a tough topcoat resists both.
Epoxy Flooring Beyond the Garage
The same epoxy flooring systems work on basement floors, workshops, laundry rooms, and some commercial spaces. Exterior concrete needs different products. See concrete sealing. For a coating-free shine on commercial floors, see polished concrete.
